Towards Autonomous Scientific Agent Systems

摘要
Recent advances in large language models have created new opportunities for scientific discovery, but current systems still face a fundamental limitation. They are often good at describing scientific tasks, yet weak at reliably executing them. In this talk, we will discuss how to build scientific agent systems that move from human-guided workflows toward greater autonomy. The talk will focus on a unified view of scientific agents spanning both computational intelligence and experimental intelligence. I will present our work on a scientific agent hub that standardizes heterogeneous tools, codebases, and APIs into callable interfaces for large models. It enables more accurate tool use and more reliable end-to-end task execution in domain-specific agent systems, including multi-agent workflows for computational fluid dynamics and perovskite material discovery. In addition, we will discuss our recent efforts in embodied experimental intelligence to support long-horizon laboratory tasks.
