The continuous breakthroughs of big data technology worldwide and the wide-ranging needs of various
industries have sparked a huge interest in data science, big data technology and its applications.
Consequently, there is a huge demand for talents in data science and big data technology. The Data Science
and Big Data Technology major intends to train next generation data scientists to obtain a solid foundation
in the theory and methodology of data science and big data technology, proficient computer programming and
implementation skills, the ability to solve real world problems with big data technology-related research
and development. The advent of the big data era provides broad development opportunities and employment
channels for data science talents. Graduates can either engage further in data science research or
contribute to society in all sectors of the society, such as government, financial institutions, education,
research institutes, consultancy.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:

Explain data problems arising in different areas of science, technology, and the society. (Knowledge)
