Architecting Heterogeneity-aware Big Data System
*Students who enroll in DSAA 6102 please attend the seminar in classroom.
ABSTRACT
With the rapid development of hardware, many modern computing hardware (e.g., GPU, DPU, FPGA) have been widely used in the production environment of the leading IT companies, e.g., Google, ByteDance. However, all the existing big data systems (e.g, Spark, Hive) are architected with “CPU is the first-class citizen”. Thus, it is an opportunity to build a heterogeneity-aware big data system. In this talk, I will first share our experiences to build big data processing systems on CPU-GPU co-processors, then highlight the research challenges and opening problems to architect heterogeneity-native system.
